The Beginnings of Club 24 Senior Living at Home®

"Club 24 Senior Living at Home® had its beginnings in the hearts and minds of the Columbia Lutheran Ministries’ Board of Directors and me, its President, one evening as the Board meeting drew to a close. Gathered around the table that night we discussed together a totally new concept for Columbia Lutheran Ministries. Why not invite seniors not familiar with the services of Columbia Lutheran to join a “club” and make available to them care services to assist them in staying at home rather than having to enter alternative care programs such as assisted living or higher levels of care.

"The vote was unanimous to move forward with this ground-breaking idea. In May of 1996 the first person signed up for services and just one year later over 600 had joined as members of Club 24 Senior Living at Home®.

"Since then innumerable people have called upon Club 24 for assistance.  Those first Board Members took hold of a vision and met the need.  The Board of today realizes that an ever-growing number of people are coming to depend upon the vital home care services provided by an organization that prides itself on it values and mission.

"My own family has personally experienced the services Club 24 offers.  We cared for a family member in our home after she could no longer reside in an independent apartment and following a stay at Columbia Lutheran Home. Fern came to live with us at age 94 for the last few weeks of her life.  The caregivers from Club 24 were compassionate, caring, understanding and unusually dependable.  The end of her life was immeasurably improved because of the services of Club 24.  She had always been so proud that I, as the President of Columbia Lutheran Ministries and founder of Club 24, had seen the need to begin such services and worked to establish them.  It is a program that truly is making a difference for so many seniors and their loved ones."

Club 24 Today

When Club 24 opened its doors in 1996 in a collaborative effort with Columbia Lutheran Ministries, there was an instantaneous and growing response from the senior community. It was  evident that the vital care services Club 24 offered seniors in the familiarity of their own homes was meeting a truly felt need.  Over the years, Club 24 Senior Living at Home has become a well-established and respected home care service provider for older adults who need that extra help to remain safe, secure and happy in their homes. And today we continue to grow our services in response to our clients' requests and needs.

Club 24’s relationship with Columbia Lutheran Ministries continues. It is an integral part of the Columbia Circle of Care which offers a continuum of choices through the programs and services of Club 24 Senior Living at Home® and Columbia Lutheran Home. While Club 24 serves clients in their own homes, Columbia Lutheran Home is a modern 116-bed, non-profit, long term care nursing facility near Woodland Park Zoo that has been serving the care needs of individuals since 1920.

Columbia Lutheran Ministries sponsors both Club 24 and Columbia Lutheran Home. It is served by a Board of Directors and area churches that support the mission through prayer, volunteers, and financial assistance. Columbia Lutheran Ministries is a Social Ministry Organization of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and serves those of all religious, ethnic, gender, and economic backgrounds.

The primary mission of Club 24 Senior Living at Home® is to provide quality, affordable services that will allow seniors to remain independent and safe in their own homes.  We are here to serve the senior community in Seattle and in Eastside communities and invite your inquiries.
